Income Taxes
State Income Tax Assistance
The Commissioner of the Revenue Office does not process Virginia state income tax returns, but you may file the tax return with our office. Returns filed with our office will be logged indicating date received, date shipped, and shipment number before being mailed to the Virginia Department of Taxation for processing. Virginia state income tax returns are due to be filed by May 1 of each year. Forms are available in our office or can be downloaded from the Virginia Tax website.

Payments
On-time payments for income tax and estimated taxes can be processed in our office. Payments that are over the max amount (see below) or late payments should be made directly to the state or on the Virginia Department of Taxation payment portal.
Per 2022 legislative changes taxpayers are required to submit payments electronically if:
- Any estimated tax payment exceeding $1,500
- Any extension payment exceeding $1,500
- The total anticipated income tax liability in any taxable year exceeds $6,000

Virginia Estimated Income Tax
The Commissioner’s office processes estimated payments that are on-time and under $1,500. Late payments received by our office will be logged and then shipped to the Department of Taxation for processing. Per Virginia Department of Taxation payments exceeding $1,500 are required to be made electronically.
- May 1: 1st Quarter Estimated due
- June 15: 2nd Quarter Estimated due
- September 15: 3rd Quarter Estimated due
- January 15: 4th Quarter Estimated due
Federal Tax Forms and Contact Information of the Internal Revenue Service
Federal tax forms are not available in the Commissioner of Revenue's office. Forms can be downloaded from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website.
