New Assistant Principal Named for South Salem

Salem School Division Superintendent, Dr. Alan Seibert, is pleased to announce that Christina Rose has been recommended to be the assistant principal at South Salem Elementary.  Rose is expected to receive formal approval from the School Board when it convenes for its March 13 meeting.  She will fill the void that is being created by Principal Margaret Humphrey’s retirement and the promotion of current South Salem Assistant Principal, Laura James.

“I am thrilled to be joining the South Salem community,” says Rose.  “I am excited to meet and serve the children, families, and staff members at South, and I know that I will continue to grow professionally and personally working alongside Mrs. James.”

Rose joined the Salem City School Division in 2015 after spending 10 years in Northern Virginia schools.  She taught at Vienna’s Wolftrap Elementary in Fairfax County for five years and was a school counselor at Rolling Ridge Elementary in Sterling for another five years.  She began working at West Salem Elementary as a school counselor three years ago.

“I felt blessed to become a part of Salem City Schools in 2015, and my time at West Salem has been a great experience,” says Rose.  “It has been an honor to work with the children and parents there, and I have benefited greatly from the experiences I have shared with my fellow staff members.  While it isn't easy to leave my West Salem family, I am ready to take the next step in my career as an educator, and I know that I am surrounded by their love and support.”

Rose is a Pittsburgh native who graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.  She earned her Master’s in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech and she has successfully completed the certificate program in Educational Leadership and Administration at George Washington University.

“I am excited to welcome Mrs. Rose, a fellow Pennsylvanian, to our South Salem family,” says James. “She comes to us with extensive experience in elementary curriculum and guidance counseling, which will help to serve our students and entire school community.  The leadership roles she has played, both here in Salem and in Northern Virginia, make her a great fit for South Salem Elementary.”

Rose and her husband reside in Roanoke.  Once approved by the School Board, she will begin her new position on July 1.
