Suspect in Armed Robberies Now in Custody

The man wanted in connection with two armed robbery incidents in the city is now in custody.

Sherman Jones, 37, of Roanoke, faces 2 counts of Robbery, 2 counts of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, 2 counts of Wearing a Mask in Public, 2 counts of Brandishing a Firearm and 1 count of Felony Grand Larceny.

On November 19, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Salem Police Department officers responded to the Choice Cigarette Discount Outlet located in the 500 block of East 4th Street in reference to a reported armed robbery.

Almost a week later on November 25, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Salem Officers were called to the P&N Market located in the 300 block of Wildwood Road in reference to another armed robbery.

In both instances, the victims described the suspect as a black male with a silver handgun, who entered the stores demanding money and then fled on foot.  There were no injuries in either robbery.

Waynesboro Police apprehended Sherman in relation to another crime in their jurisdiction earlier this month.  The arrest warrants related to the Salem crimes were served on December 13.  Currently, Sherman is at the Rockbridge Regional Jail where is being held without bond, and the investigation is ongoing.
