Fire and EMS Respond to Fire on Fletcher Circle

The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 2759 Fletcher Circle, on the far western end of the city, this morning at approximately 7:17 a.m.  No one was injured and firefighters were able to locate and rescue a family cat during the fire.

The first units arrived within 10 minutes of receiving the call and found heavy fire coming from the front of the house.  The high winds made contained the blaze more difficult, but the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of the first engine’s arrival. The building did sustain fire and smoke damage, but crews were able to limit the damage and contain the fire to two rooms of the house.

Approximately 25 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Medic 801, Medic 802, Medic 803, Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) and the Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department (Wagon 9, Tanker 3 & Air 9) responded to the call.  Roanoke Fire & EMS (Engine 4) stood by and covered additional emergency calls for the City of Salem.

The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the cause of the fire was unintentional and the damage to the structure is estimated at approximately $30,000.  The fire displaced the residents of the home who are now staying with family.
