The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 324 Union Street, Monday evening at approximately 8:27 p.m. Three people were at home at the time of the fire and everyone escaped without injury.
The first units arrived within three minutes of receiving the call and found smoke coming from the front of the building. The fire was located in the kitchen and it was brought under control within five minutes. The building did sustain fire and smoke damage, but the fire was contained to the kitchen
Approximately 17 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Medic 801, Medic 802, Medic 803,Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) responded to the call.
The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire and has estimated the damage to be $10,000. The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
