One of the most successful and acclaimed a cappella groups in the past decade is headed to Salem in April of 2020. Straight No Chaser’s “The Open Bar” tour will be serving a variety of top shelf classics from a number of musical genres at the Salem Civic Center on Thursday, April 2.
The group was formed in 1996 at Indiana University and over the years it has cultivated a massive fanbase, made numerous national TV appearances, sold nearly two million CDs and garnered over 100 million YouTube views. But Straight No Chaser is the real deal LIVE. The captivating sound of their nine voices coming together to make extraordinary music, coupled with the group’s comedic talent make this a must-see show.
“Every year it gets better and better,” says Tyler Trepp, the youngest member of the group. “We keep surprising ourselves in a good way, and it just keeps growing.”
All nine members have a hand in choosing songs, which mirror their widespread musical tastes. You almost always hear a Broadway show tune, followed by Classic Rock and Vintage Rhythm and Blues numbers. The hits of James Brown, Taylor Swift, Boy II Men and Judy Garland are all part of the group’s diverse repertoire.
