One of fall’s most anticipated events in Virginia’s Blue Ridge, Pumpkinfest, returns to the Salem Farmers Market Saturday, October 27. This year’s event will once again take place from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and feature a costume contest and pumpkin give-away. Plus, attendees can walk through our “Chefs vs. Surgeons” Jack O' Lantern patch, vote for their favorite carved pumpkin and later bid on it in the pumpkin auction. In addition, children can buy tickets for carnival games and inflatables and enjoy sand art and a bake sale. This is 19th year that Salem has joined forces with Q99 to present this day of family fun at the Market.
Youngsters also will have a chance to Trick or Treat with the downtown merchants an hour before Pumpkinfest starts. Children can meet at the Farmers Market at 10 a.m. and trick or treat up and down Main Street until 11 a.m. In addition, the first 1000 kids will receive a trick-or-treat bag filled with candy from Kroger. Plus, Kroger is giving the first 199 kids a free pumpkin.
Pumpkinfest admission for adults and children is just $1.99 a person, but children will be admitted free if they are wearing a costume. Hotdogs and chips will be available from the Q99 Café and sold throughout the day. All proceeds from the event will benefit Area 8 Special Olympics.
Q99, Kroger and Salem Parks and Recreation are sponsoring this year’s event and Q99’s Dick and Dave and Q-Bear once again will host the fall celebration. The Salem Farmers Market is located on the corner of Main and Broad Street in the heart of Downtown Salem.
