Summer Reading Programs 2017

Join us for the 2017 Summer Reading Program, “Building a Better World”! We have programs for children, teens, and adults, with special prizes donated by local businesses for kids and teens and wonderful programming for all ages.

This year’s focus is Reading for Charity, sponsored by the Friends of Salem Library. For every book you read, you earn a token you use to vote for one of three nonprofit organizations selected by library staff. With each token, you can place a vote for either the Salem Animal Shelter, the Salem Food Pantry, or the Flooded West Virginia Public Libraries (Rainelle and Clendenin Libraries). The Friends of Salem Library will then donate $800 to the first place winning nonprofit, $600 to the second place nonprofit, and $400 to the third place nonprofit.

To sign up for the Summer Reading Program, visit the Salem Public Library between June 5th and August 5th to register. Claim your tokens at the front desk to vote for your favorite charity when you finish reading books, then check out more!

We are grateful for prizes for our children's and teen Summer Reading Programs from the Launching Pad, Corbin's Confections, Thunder Valley, the Virginia Museum of Transportation, Chick-fil-A, Lee-Hi Bowling Lanes, Skate Center of Roanoke Valley, Frank's Pizza, and the Taubman Museum of Art.

We also have a fantastic slate of programs lined up for all ages. Check out the listing below, scope out the library calendar on our website, and follow us on Facebook!

If you have any questions about our Summer Reading Program or summer events, please give us a call at 540-375-3089. Happy reading!
