Salem Police Arrest Two After Thursday Incident

On Thursday, May 19, at approximately 1:05 p.m., the Salem Police Department responded to the 1700 block of East Main Street in reference to two suspicious subjects, who were inside a parked vehicle behind a business.

Upon arrival, officers approached the male driver and his female passenger, who were sitting in a red Nissan SUV behind the establishment. Officers identified the driver as Bowe Curtis Richards, 19, of Roanoke and after a check of his license, Salem 911 Communications advised that Richards was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Roanoke County.

While Salem Police Officers were speaking with Richards, he started the vehicle and attempted to flee. As he hurriedly left the scene, one officer was dragged a short distance and the second officer was almost struck by the vehicle.

Officers pursued the subjects with their emergency equipment activated, but due to the reckless nature of the suspect’s driving, officers terminated the pursuit a short distance into Roanoke City. Minutes after the pursuit was terminated, Roanoke City officers located the vehicle and the suspects on Westside Boulevard. The two exited the vehicle and took off running, but were quickly taken into custody.

No vehicles were damaged in the pursuit and there were no injuries. However, Richards was transported to the Lewis Gale Emergency Room for evaluation.

Richards was arrested on two counts of Assault on Law Enforcement, Felony Eluding Police and on his outstanding Roanoke County warrant. The passenger, Misti Ann Moore, 43, of Roanoke, was arrested for Providing False Identification to Law Enforcement and on two outstanding Roanoke County warrants. Both subjects were transported to the Roanoke Co /Salem Jail where they are being held without bond.
