USA Softball is proud to announce Salem, Va. as the latest city to host the 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team during the “Stand Beside Her” tour. Salem joins the list of cities that have been announced as hosts for the Red, White and Blue, as the team prepares to capture the Gold Medal at the 2020 Games. Softball is returning to the Summer Olympic games in Tokyo for the first time since 2008.
“It’s exciting to go to new places where we will be able to see new fans who love Team USA,” said 2020 Team Member, Aubree Munro. “With Salem being towards the end of our tour, we’re hoping that everyone comes out to ‘Stand Beside Her’ and all of us, as we get ready to leave for the Olympics! Help us go out with a bang and feel all the love and support before we get to the big stage.”
At Kiwanis Park, Team USA will face the Salem All-Stars, a team comprised of athletes from universities and colleges in the region. The game will take place on June 25 at 7 p.m. and it will be hosted by USA Softball of Piedmont, Va. Tickets for the game will go on sale November 8 and they can be purchased at ticketmaster.com or at the Salem Civic Center Box Office.
“It is a pleasure to be a partner with the City of Salem Parks and Recreation department in hosting our USA Softball Olympic Team,” said USA Softball of Piedmont, Va. Commissioner, Andy Dooley. “Please help promote the athletes as they prepare to play in the 2020 Olympic Games.”
With the return of softball to the Tokyo Games, the “Stand Beside Her” tour provides much-needed training and competition for the 2020 World National Team in its preparation for the Olympic Games, while also giving fans a chance to watch the Red, White and Blue in person. Olympic competition will start July 22, 2020 with the Gold Medal Game is set for July 28. Salem has played a major role in creating excitement for these players in the past. Since 2001, the city has hosted exhibitions of this magnitude four other times.
“Virginia’s Championship City is proud to once again represent the Commonwealth as a host site for this tour,” said Salem Mayor, Randy Foley. “We have a proven track record over the years with the Women’s National and USA Olympic Teams, and I have no doubt that this game also will provide fans with an unforgettable experience.”
The “Stand Beside Her” tour evokes a powerful message of unity that is aimed to inspire communities to stand beside HER – the members of the World National Team, America and the future generations of female athletes.
