Some Vehicles May Qualify for Property Tax Relief

City of Salem Commissioner of the Revenue, Linda M. Carroll, announced today that additional vehicles may now qualify for Personal Property Tax Relief (PPTR) from the Commonwealth of Virginia. This is due to legislative changes that were put in place during the 2016 session of the Virginia General Assembly.

Jim Chisom Reappointed to Salem City Council

City Council made James L. Chisom Salem’s newest council member during a specially called meeting this afternoon at City Hall. Chisom will fill the position that was vacated by Vice Mayor John Givens on October 24. Chisom will now serve out the remainder of that term, which expires on June 30, 2018.

Sheriff's Office Warns of Jury Duty Phone Scam

The Salem Sheriff’s Office has received several citizen inquiries about phone calls they are receiving related to jury duty in the city. The scammers are telling citizens that they have failed to report for jury duty and must adhere to certain instructions.
