I Smell Snow

Mid-January through late February is prime time for a snow day here in Salem. Everyone knows the excitement of waking up to see a glorious coating of snow on the ground. After the initial excitement wears off comes the decision of how to spend the snowy day. We have created a list of the best snow day activites in the city.

Go Sledding

      Salem Municipal Golf Course

Mentioned by Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge as a favorite for sledding*. There is no resisting the openness and perfect sledding hills the golf course provides.

Longwood Park

Located on E Main Street this park provides enormous hills, various areas for snowman building, and a playground. There is the perfect balance for any snow going family.

Drink Hot Chocolate

Mill Mountain

A classic place to grab hot chocolate, or coffee, and watch the snow fall on Main Street.

Champloo

Located in Downtown, Champloo offers a decadent hot chocolate creation. Walk over after sledding at Longwood Park to warm back up and refuel.

Take A Walk

Seeing the city

With roads being slick, the best way to get around during a nice snowy day is walking. Snowy days provide opportunities to see the beautiful scenery. There are several photo worthy sights in Salem to snap on your walk. Check out the Greenway, Battlefield Trail, Downtown, or any of the scenic neighborhoods.

Enjoy Local Beer

Olde Salem Brewing Company

Olde Salem Brewing Co is within walking distance from homes close to Downtown. Enjoy watching the snow fall from the large windows in their tasting room with a craft beer.

Parkway Brewing

Located right off the Battlefield Trail and Kessler Mill gives this brewery beautiful scenery. With one of their signature brews you can warm up and enjoy the snow.
