Holidays in Salem

The holiday season is fast approaching. Stores are bustling with holiday shoppers, and the air smells like pine trees and peppermint mochas. If you are looking for ways to get in the holiday spirit, the City of Salem has got you covered. This week The City of Salem is kicking off the holidays with the Christmas tree lighting and the Christmas Parade.

At 6PM on December 1st you can join Kevin Boggess, City Manager, in lighting the town Christmas tree. Immediately following the tree lighting is the parade. This year there are over 100 floats! These floats include local businesses, city officials, state officials, and marching bands. Each float will be judged with prizes being awarded to best marching group, the best old-fashioned Christmas theme and the best children’s group.

The festivities continue on Saturday for the Gingerbread Festival. The Salem Public Library will have activities for children, marshmallow roasting, pictures with Santa, a gingerbread house competition, and more. The Farmers Market will have local vendors selling holiday gifts, glass blowing, and live alpacas. Make sure to stop by these events and get in the holiday spirit.
