After being closed for four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the constant uncertainty that has accompanied the virus, the Salem Senior Center is beyond excited to announce that it is scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 13.
As with all phases of reopening in the city, safety is the primary concern for both workers and participants. As a result, only activities that easily facilitate social distancing will be held when the building reopens. Exercise classes, Tai-Chi and ceramics are some of the events that will begin immediately. Other activities, such as bridge and dominoes, will be on hold until social distancing guidelines are modified or eliminated.
When community fitness classes resume at the Senior Center on July 13, participants will have several options. Classes on Mondays and Wednesday with Marina will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday classes with Lori are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday sessions with Anna will run from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 pm. All other classes will be phased in at a later date, as conditions allow.
Also, all remaining trips that were planned for 2020 have been cancelled. The Biloxi-New Orleans trip has been rescheduled for April 26 through May 1 of 2021 and you can sign-up for that trip now. For a complete updated list of current activities, please access the Salem Senior Center’s monthly newsletter at www.salemva.gov/Departments/Parks-and-Recreation/Senior-Center Printed copies of our newsletter also are available at the Senior Center, which is located at 110 Union St.in Downtown Salem.
Finally, to help slow the asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 and to show respect for fellow attendees, we ask that you please wear a face covering when entering the building.
