The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 508 Cleveland Ave. Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:34 p.m. One person was home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.
The first units arrived within three minutes of receiving the call and found smoke coming from the eaves of the building. Firefighters found the source of the fire in the kitchen and brought it under control within eleven minutes. The home sustained some fire and smoke damage, but the fire was contained to the kitchen area.
Approximately 22 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Medic 801, Medic 802, Medic 803, Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) responded to the call.
The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire was caused by unattended cooking and it has been ruled accidental in nature. The fire caused an estimated $15,000 damage to the home. Two residents were displaced and are now being assisted by family friends.
