For the 10th year in a row, the Salem Water treatment plant operators have achieved the Virginia Department of Health Gold Award for Water Treatment Plant Optimization performance. Delivering clean water to Salem residents is a complex process. Achieving such an award year in and year out requires a lot of hard work and dedication from the team under the guidance of Frank Young, Salem's Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator, and Will Shaner, his assistant.
Credit for this honor also goes to the maintenance personnel, as they keep all components of the water plant up and running at peak efficiency. Maintenance is under the direction of Billy Williams and his assistant Brandon Poff.
"I am genuinely proud of each team member for putting in the hard work and keeping each other accountable to make such an achievement possible," says Water Department Director, Larado Robinson.
The Distribution group also works extremely hard to make sure clean water is delivered to every citizen of Salem, primarily through the wintertime when waterline breaks are numerous. Distribution is under the direction of Andy Trail and his assistant Darren Jenkins.
