Jim Chisom

James L. Chisom was appointed to Salem City Council on November 3, 2016 during a specially called meeting.  He was named to fulfill the remainder of the term that belonged to Vice-Mayor John Givens, who resigned on October 21 after serving the city for 21 years.  Chisom was born and raised in Salem and he is no stranger to public service.  He previously served on Council from December 14, 2015 through June 30, 2016 when he covered the remainder of Councilwoman Lisa Garst’s term.
 
In addition, From 2000 to 2008 he served three terms on the Salem City School Board working with superintendents Wayne Tripp and Alan Seibert.  His involvement in a number of civic organizations includes the Salem and Roanoke YMCAs, the Roanoke Valley Booster Club, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and he is a member of the President’s Advisory Board at Roanoke College. Chisom also has volunteered as a recreation coach in Salem mentoring young people in football, baseball, basketball and soccer.
 
A graduate of both Salem High School and Roanoke College, Chisom graduated cum laude from Roanoke College in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.  He is currently employed as a Senior Vice President-Investment Officer with Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC.
 
Chisom and his wife, Kathy, have been married for 27 years and have three sons, who have attended or are currently attending Salem City Schools.  At this time, Will is a fourth-year student at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, Cole is a first year Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia and Burks is a freshman at Salem High School.
