Announcements

Saturday, October 18th - Salem 49ers+ Annual Fall Bazaar, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., Salem Senior Citizens Center, The bazaar will feature handmade crafts, household items, a country store, baked goods, and much, much more. For more information call 375-3054.

Our "49ers Plus" Club is currently selling granite stones in honor of OR in memory of loved ones. At this time, the first ordered granite stones are being put in place along our "Memory Walkway" on the Union Street side of the Senior Center. A dedication will be planned after everything, including landscaping, is complete.  Sales of the stones is an ongoing project and forms are available at the Senior Center.  A new flag pole is to be installed displaying the Virginia State and the United States flags.  Also, we have two new Salem wrought iron benches to be placed in the area. If you would like more information please feel free to give us a call at 375-3054!!

Instructor: Phyllis Fralin, $35/person. An example of these works is on display at the Senior Center. Signup at the Senior Center to have a canvas prepared for you!!

9:00 a.m.- Exercise with Sherry Stinson, NETA, AFAA, and CPR Certified. Dress comfortably, bring your enthusiasm! Remember you should consult your physician beforebeginning this or any exercise program.

10:00 a.m. - Chair Caning & Basket Weaving

REGULAR MEETINGS - 2008

TOPS - Salem Chapter for Take Pounds Off Sensibly - Tuesdays weekly - 5:45 p.m. #VA 313

49ers Plus Club -  1st & 3rd Thursdays - 11:00 a.m. and eat lunch out the 2nd week at various restaurants. They also preside at our Monthly Luncheons. This is a group that meets for fun. They make donations to organizatins such as the Salem Rescue Squad and the American Redcross.

Forest Lawn Garden Club - 2nd Thursday of each month - 7:00 p.m.

Twined Hearts Garden Club - 3rd Tuesday of each month - 7:00 p.m.

Bridge Luncheon - Fourth Tuesday of each month - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Bring a bag lunch, drinks will be available. 

Monthly Luncheon - A "pot luck" meal is held on the last Thursday of each month at noon. A special program follows the meal.  This is a great time to see many of our regular participants and for friends to visit!! The program concludes around 1:30 - 2:00 p.m.

"Tea Dances" - 2nd and last Tuesday - 2:15 - 4:15 p.m. Bring a snack to share and a friend!!

"Senior Mountain Pickers" - (formerly "Boone's Picker") now meet at the Senior Center, Mondays 12:30 - 4:00 p.m. and Fridays 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Come pick, dance, or just listen!!

"Salem Senior Singers"  - rehearse 1st Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m. The group sings regularly at Snyder's Nursing Home and Our Lady of the Valley. The also accept invitations to sing to other groups.

Saturday, October 18th, Departure Time: Noon

Cost: $30, inlcudes a "family style" meal followed by a program of blue grass and country music.

 

Paramount Center for the Arts - Bristol, TN
Sally Struthers is starring in "Nunsense" on Tuesday, October 21st, Call the Senior Center at 375-3054 if you are interested!!

Cost is $50.

Mrs. Rowe's Restaurant/Green Valley Book Fair
Friday, October 24th, Departure Time: 9:30 a.m

Cost: $20, includes buffet lunch and transportation

AARP Mature Driving Course

October 28th & 29th, Time: 1:00 p.m (both days)

Cost: $10 for materials, Call the Senior Center to sign up. Sign up is necessary!!

Abingdon/Wytheville Theatres

November 1st - 2nd, Departure Time: 9:00 a.m.

Cost: $145/person/double, $178/person/single

Leave for Abingdon, lunch at  Withers Hardware Restaurant and matinee production of "Beauty and the Beast", then to Hilton's for the Carter Family Fold. Overnight and breakfast will be in Bristol. Lunch and matinee production of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" at Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theathre in Wytheville before returning to Salem.

Gaither Homecoming Concert at the Roanoke Civic Center

Saturday, December 6th, Departure Time: 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $45 for ground floor tickets and transportation.

(We will stay for the entire concert)

"Holiday Pops Spectacular"

Friday, December 12th, Departure Time: 5:00 p.m. to Zaxby's in Salem for dinner on your own.

Cost: $22 for tickets (seating on the concourse) and transportation.

Show will be held at the Salem Civic Center.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Transportation by van is available to Salem residents to any of our activities by calling at least one day in advance.On Fridays, we frequently make outings in our van, to local malls, shops and restaurants, as well as out of town destinations such as River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg and the Fort Chiswell Outlet Mall.
