Class Fees:
There is no fee for
Bridge, Ballroom, Line or Tap dance, T-Th-F Exercise, Canasta
or other card playing. Tai chi is $2/person/session. A suggested
amount of $5/person/month is given to Norma Harris for quilting
and needlework. Materials fees are the cost for chair caning,
basket weaving, ceramics, bowling, and guitar.
*Call the senior center if you have any questions. Please feel
free to visit and observe any classes you would like before
deciding to participate.

49ers Plus Club
- 1st & 3rd Thursdays - 11:00 a.m., Eat lunch out the
2nd week at various restaurants. They also preside at our Monthly
Luncheons. This is a group that meets for fun. They
make donations to organizations such as the Salem Rescue Squad
and the American Red Cross.

Bridge Luncheon
- Fourth Tuesday of each month - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Bring a bag lunch, drinks

Monthly "Pot Luck" Luncheon
- These luncheons are always a fun, well-attended event with a
program that follows the meal. They are held on the last
Thursday of each month. Participants are asked to bring a dish
that serves 6 - 8 people. Blood Pressure Screenings - 11 a.m.,
courtesy of Our Lady of the Valley Retirement Community.
"Senior
Mountain Pickers" - This is a group of
musicians (string instruments) who play informally on Mondays at 12:30
and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. Come play along,
sing and dance or join the audience of 50+. This group is really
GREAT!!
"Salem Senior Singers"
- rehearse 1st Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m. The group
sings regularly for Snyder Nursing Home. Other requests are received and scheduled as possible.
Everyone is welcome to come and sing with this group anytime.
AARP's Mature
Driving Course will be offered in the Spring.
Call the Senior Center if you are interested. The class will meet
twice for 4 hours each day. Date: August 19th
& 20th Time: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Fee:
$12/Members; $14/Non-members
Monthly Newsletter - This consists of
a calendar and news of the Senior Center activities and outings.
They will be distributed at the Monthly Luncheons. If you would
like the newsletter mailed to you just let us know. Many of
our festivities will be listed that you won't want to miss!!

We are ready to travel again with some exciting new trips. There
are some changes and we hope it makes traveling easier for you.
ALL TRIPS will leave from the Salem
Civic Center parking lot East side near the tennis courts (1001
Roanoke Blvd.) where there are plenty of parking spaces and we
will all be together. We hope the places we have chosen will be
of interest to you and possibly some locations you have never
visited before. We will keep you up to date with any changes
or additions to the schedule.
DAY TRIP INFORMATION FOR 2010
All day trips must be
paid in full upon registration - Payments must be made by cash or
check made payable to the city of Salem (unless otherwise stated) - Cancellations may be made up to one week
prior to departure with a full refund if a replacement can be made.
Failure to fill the vacancy will result in a forfeiture of all
non-refundable payments. (unless otherwise stated) - ANY
cancellations made within one week prior to the trip will result in
forfeiture of all non-refundable payments. - All participants
must complete and sing a travel participant waiver form for EACH
trip. - Trips lacking ample number of participants
will be canceled in advance of payment deadlines and full refunds
will be given - Full itineraries and agendas are available at the

OVERNIGHT TRIP INFORMATION FOR
2010
- All overnight trips must be paid by
deposit or in full upon registration - Payments may be make by
check or money order to the City of Salem (unless otherwise stated)
- ALL cancellations for overnight trips must be made thirty (30)
days out in order to receive a full refund. - ALL
non-refundable payments will be forfeited cancellations are within
thirty (30) days of departure if a replacement is not available -
Payments made payable to the City of Salem will be refunded by the
City of Salem ONLY. Organizations/Businesses receiving
payment/deposits are responsible for processing refunds. - All
participants must sign a participant waiver form prior to each
trip. - Full itineraries and agendas are available at the Salem
Senior Center.

July 30th - Showtimers, "Man of La Mancha" Musical
In prison, waiting to be called before the Spanish
inquisition, the aged Miguel de Cervantes regales his fellow
prisoners with his story of Don Quixote. Songs include
"The Impossible Dream", "Little
Bird" and "Dulcinea".
Dinner will be on your own at Teaberry's Departure
time: 5 p.m.
August 9th
- 13th (Monday - Friday) - Scott's Family Resort, Deposit, New
York Planned daily activities: hikes, exercise,
touring, showboat sing-a-longs, nightly entertainment, golf,
volleyball, bocce, canoeing, and swimming. There will also be
dancing: ballroom, line, folk/square, Be as active or laid
back as you please. Three home cooked meals a day and a picnic on
the mountain. Cost: $600, Departure Time: 7 a.m.

Fun!! Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center, Charlottesville
More fun than the Grand Ole Opry on a Saturday Night!
Carl and Jeanne, the stars of SIRIUS/XM Satellite Radio's family
comedy channels with baritone Jim Rittenhouse, present an
afternoon of First Class Entertainment designed and performed
exclusively for senior adults! The humor is always clean and never
mean. Say Carl, "We've got a show loaded with rib-tickling, knee
slapping laughs and fee-sack philosophy. Eating at the Cracker
Barrel in Waynesboro on your own. Cost: $45, Departure
Time: 8 a.m.

September 23 - Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre, "42 Street"
Come and meet those tap dancin' feet! Our heroine, Peggy
Sawyer will shuffle you down the Great White Way in a story dreams
are made of as their "pretty lady" auditions for her first
Broadway Show. While only a chorus girl Peggy's natural
talent catches the eye of producer Julian Marsh. After the show's
star is injured, it's up to Peggy to save the day. Memorable
numbers include "Lullaby of Broadway", "Shuffle off to Buffalo",
We're in the Money" and "About a Quarter to Nine". You'll hear
them all. On the avenue we're taking ya to 42nd Street!

September 26th - October 2nd (Sunday -
Thursday) Niagara Falls & Toronto 6 nights lodging
including 4 consecutive nights in Niagara Falls, 10 meals (6
breakfast and 4 dinners), guided tours of Niagara Falls & Toronto,
visit Casa Loma; a journey to the Falls on the "Maid of the Mist".
Canada's most magnificent castle and lots more! Cost $595,

Friday, October
15th - Waynesboro, Stuart Drafts, and Dayton
Enjoy the fall foliage on our trip to the Yoder's Cheese Shops,
Little Debbie and more. Eating at Mrs. Rowe's delicious
buffet is included in the price of $35. Departure Time: 8:30 a.m.
Tuesday, November
2nd - Barn Dinner Theatre, Greensboro, NC, "Nana's Naughty
Knickers" LAUGH OUT LOUD FARCE! Sylvia is a
sweet 86 year old grandmother who has been running a lingerie
boutique from her rent-controlled apartment for year. She has been
selling very naughty undergarments to senior citizens who still
want to spice up their lives. However, her money making enterprise
might come crashing down around her when her granddaughter
stumbles upon her business and her money-hungry landlord starts
snooping for ways to evict Sylvia and get a tenant who pays full
rent! Mistaken identities, loss of hearing, and lingerie modeling
ensue in this delightful 2 act farce. Cost: $59,
includes transportation, lunch and show. Departure Time: 9 a.m.
Friday, November
12th, Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre,
"Christmas in the Mountains". Deck the
halls and trim the tree and let Wohlfahrt Haus do the rest to get
you and yours into the holiday spirit. This spectacular production
features your favorite Christmas songs both old and new. Dazzling
costumes and fantastic choreography help to spread the Christmas
cheer. Bring the whole family to experience the magic of Christmas
in the Mountains. Cost: $55, includes transportation,
show and meal. Departure Time: 10 a.m.

On Fridays, we frequently
make outings in our van, to local malls, shops and restaurants,
as well as out of town destinations such as River Ridge Mall in
Lynchburg and the Fort Chiswell Outlet Mall.
