James I. Moyer Sports Complex

The James I. Moyer Sports Complex is the Home of the Salem High School Girls
Fast Pitch and the Roanoke College Women’s Fast Pitch Softball Teams!!!

The James I. Moyer Sports Complex is utilized 7 days a week beginning March through November. The sports complex hosts many events which draw state and national athletes and spectators to the City of Salem. The events held at this facility range from youth, adult, high school, collegiate and national levels. The organizations that predominately use the James I. Moyer Sports Complex are NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), VHSL (Virginia High School League), NSA (National Softball Association), USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association), ASA (Amateur Softball Association of America), ODAC (Old Dominion Athletic Conference) and Virginia Dixie Youth Baseball. Some of the past, present and future events that have been held at this facility are as follows: USA Softball National Team “Aiming for Athens 2004 Tour”, NCAA Women’s Fast Pitch Softball National Championships for Division II and Division III, NSA Girls Fast-Pitch Class B East World Series, ASA Men’s East Class C & D Slow-Pitch National Championship, USSSA Class D State Tournament and Virginia Dixie Youth District and State Tournaments. The City of Salem, Virginia and the James I. Moyer Sports Complex take great pride in hosting local, high school, collegiate and national championship tournaments with the highest of standards. As you can see, the City of Salem, Virginia is where teams come to be Crowned a Champion!!!

 

Special Features of the James I. Moyer Sports Complex  

  1. Gate House – ticket booth, souvenir stand, maintenance storage building
  2. Electronic Scoreboards – Field #1 (Individual Inning Scoreboard)                                 Field #2, #3 & #4 (multi-purpose scoreboards)
  3. Portable Fencing – can be set up at a variety of distances
  4. Dugouts – restrooms, water fountains and intercom systems to third floor of tower
  5. Seating – Individual seats on each field and additional portable seating available on request
  6. Restrooms – large men’s and ladies restrooms to accommodate large scale events
  7. Concessions – permanent concession stand on the first floor of the tower and also portable concessions place throughout the complex grounds
  8. Second Floor of Tower – Manager’s Office, tournament headquarters, numerous phone and wireless internet hook ups, irrigation control panel for the entire complex, restrooms for tournament officials, meeting area, intercom system to 3 rd Floor and gate house
  9. Third Floor of Tower – Site Supervisor’s Office, PA announcers, official scorekeepers, clock operators, communication to each dugout as well as umpire communication, restrooms for all third floor workers, intercom system to 2nd Floor and gate house. Audio units are located on this level which will play national anthem or music on all four fields or on an individual field. Also, master PA which enables an override of all other PA systems.
  10. Track & Trails - Circular paved pathway outside of permanent fence and Greenway paved trail that borders the James I. Moyer Sports Complex and the Roanoke River which can be used for walking, jogging and exercise trail for all ages.
  11. Lighting – System is 50 30 maintained which is equal to a Triple A, baseball lighting system.
  12. Park Shelter & Playground – large playground equipment area, basketball half-court, horseshoe pits, volleyball court, sheltered area with picnic tables, grills and plenty of shade trees.

FROM NORTH AND SOUTH
Interstate 81 North and South, Take Exit 140
Turn South on U.S. Route 311 (Thompson Memorial Drive)
Follow Route 311, Down to East Main Street
Turn Right at the Stoplight on Main Street
Go through 4 stoplights, at the 4th stoplight turn left on Union Street
Follow Union Street through 1 stoplight, then go about 1/16 of a mile and
The Complex will be on your left.


FROM SOUTH ON U.S. 220
Exit U.S. 220 at Salem exit
Go North on Route 419
Follow Route 419 approximately 8 miles
Turn left at stoplight intersection onto Boulevard
(General Electric Plant is on your right through the intersection)
Follow the Boulevard down to the stoplight; turn left on 4th street
Stay on 4th street through 3 stoplights
At the 3rd stoplight turn left onto Union Street
Follow Union Street through 1 stoplight, then go about 1/16 of a mile and
the complex will be on your left.


FROM NORTH ON U.S. 220
Exit U.S. 220 and go South on Interstate 81
Take Exit 140 onto U.S. Route 311
