ADULT PROGRAMS

BALLROOM DANCING: BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE (ADULT & TEEN)

This class offers a complete introduction to ballroom dancing.  The class is perfect for beginners and those looking to polish their ballroom technique. You will learn the techniques necessary for moving with style and grace. No previous dance experience or partner is necessary.

When: Fridays (On-going class)

Location: Salem Senior Center (110 Union Street)

Time: 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Fee: $7 per person, per lesson (class limit 30) 

A partner is not required.

CERAMICS: (INTERMEDIATE) 

This class is designed for the student who has prior experience with ceramics. Painting on resin, dry brushing, and other techniques will be introduced.

When: Mondays (begins January 9th)

Location: Salem Senior Center (110 Union Street)

Time: 6:15 - 9:15 p.m.

HAND-BUILT CERAMICS (BEGINNERS) 

Come stretch your creative muscles as you learn how to form original works of art in clay! The basic skills of hand-built ceramics will be taught through the pinch coil and slab methods using low fire clays and glazes.

When: Wednesdays (January 25 - March 28)

Location: Salem High School (Spartan Drive)

Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Instructor: Julie Hamilton 
Fee: $120/8 weeks - includes clay, tools, and glazes. (class limit 10)

*List of supplies students will need to bring: paper towels, old towel or apron, small Tupperware container with lid and several plastic grocery bags.

CHESS (ALL LEVELS)

This is for all levels of playing strength. Everyone is welcome regardless of age.

When: Tuesdays (On-going class)

Location: Salem Senior Center (110 Union Street)

Time: 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. (7 - 8 p.m. - beginner instruction)

WORKING WITH COMPUTERS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

This course content will be completely driven by the wants and needs of those attending. What do YOU want to learn? Microsoft Office, E-mail, Skype, surfing the net, Facebook, or working with digital pictures. These are just a few possibilities. When you come to the first class, we will discuss what we will work on. Computers are provided.

When: Thursdays (January 5 - March 8) OR Fridays (January 6 - March 9)

CROCHETING/KNITTING

Learn the basics of crocheting and complete a couple of different projects in class.

GUITAR FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

Students will acquire a basic foundation in guitar including tuning, playing cords, reading tablature, flat picking, and simple folk and blues songs. No previous musical experience is required.


When: Wednesdays (February 1 - March 7)

Location: Salem Senior Center (110 Union Street)

Time: 7:15 - 8:15 p.m.

Instructor: Randy Walker

Fee: $45/6weeks (class limit 10)
Required Materials: acoustic guitar (steel string or classical), pick, and tuner.

GUITAR - LEVEL 2 (AGES 12+)

For students with two to four months of previous guitar study. Continue to develop your skills in chording, strumming, playing tab and fingerpicking.


When: Wednesdays (February 1 - March 7)

COUPONING

If you are looking to save money in today's economy, come join us for Couponing 101. This class will teach the ins and outs of using coupons. Learn to organize and utilize coupons that are out there (in papers, online, and in the mail)  This helps save money and get products for rock bottom prices and sometimes even FREE!!

LADIES GOLF

Have you always wanted to learn to golf and just haven't taken the time? This is your opportunity to learn the basics: grip, swing, putt, chip and more.

WATERCOLORING - (AGES 8 - 14)

Are you ready to chase away the winter blues and get creative? Then brush up your painting skills! Each participant will get to take home a complete watercolor painting kit, including tube paints, brushes in assorted sizes, heavyweight watercolor paper, a color wheel, covered paint palette, pencil and waterproof pen. Workshop  topics include basic color-mixing and brushstroke techniques, landscapes, still life, floral composition and illustration tips and tricks, with a special behind the scenes look at Sarah's published book, Hello Hokie Bird! You supply the creativity, we will supply the rest.

When: Mondays (January 30 - February 27)

GUITAR FOR KIDS - (AGES 8 - 12)

Be a real guitar hero! Learn music basics like tuning,  tempo, rhythm and dynamics play simplified chord and riff's from guitar tab.

NEW! KARATE (ALL AGES)

If you are looking for a way to help your child improve their focus and self-discipline, equip them to be better prepared to stand up to a bully and peer pressure by building their confidence - then this is a great chance to try Super Kicks Karate! Family class ages 4 to adult. Improve your fitness, self-defense, confidence, and self-discipline, with a strong emphasis on leadership skills.

BATON (BEGINNERS, AGES (4 - 16)

Participants will learn basic twirling techniques.

          7:00 - 7:45 p.m. for Juniors/Drill Team

Instructor: Natasha Dowdy

Fee: $35 per month, On the first night Natasha will measure and order each girl's baton and costume to be worn in parades and recitals.  Cost for these items are separate and only one time during the year.

MOONBEAM GYMNASTICS! FOR BOYS AND GIRLS  - (AGES 2 - 12)

A unique combinations of not only gymnastics, but experienced coaches guide children to sports, health, nutrition and physical education. It improves hand and eye coordination, balance, strength and sportsmanship. Increases confidence and self esteem. Each child will earn a prize at the end of each class, as well as receive a trophy at the end of the season. 

When: Tuesdays (On-going class through May)

Location: Salem Senior Center (110 Union Street)

Time: 5 p.m. (Ages 2 - 6), 6 p.m. (Ages 4 - 7), 7 p.m. (Ages 8 - 12)
