Office of Building Inspections and Zoning

Application Process for Building Permits

When applying for different permits the following items are required:

Building Permit New Construction - Residential

  1. Two (2) sets of plans
  2. Completed application
  3. Shrink-swell soil test results
  4. If located in the floodplain, preconstruction Certificate of Elevation*
  5. Certified plat showing all easements, existing structures, and proposed structures
  6. Erosion and Sediment Control Permit from the Engineering Department

Building Permit New Construction - Commercial

  1. Three (3) sets of sealed (Architect or Engineer ) plans, including all electrical, mechanical and plumbing drawings
  2. Completed application
  3. Shrink-swell soil test results
  4. If located in the floodplain, Preconstruction Certificate of Elevation*
  5. Approved site plan
  6. Erosion and Sediment Control Permit from the Engineering Department

Building Permit Additions - Residential

  1. One (1) set of plans
  2. If located in the floodplain, Preconstruction Certificate of Elevation*
  3. Certified plat showing all easements, existing structures and proposed addition

Building Permit Additions - Commercial

  1. Three (3) sets of sealed (Architect or Engineer ) plans, including all electrical, mechanical and plumbing drawings
  2. Shrink-swell soil test results
  3. If located in the floodplain, Preconstruction Certificate of Elevation*
  4. Approved site plan
*Please note, if a Preconstruction Certificate of Elevation is required, then before a certificate of occupancy is issued, we must receiver a Preconstruction Certificate of Elevation.
