JURY DUTY SCAM
We want to alert you about a reported telephone scam where
callers are claiming to be law enforcement or IRS personnel. The callers are advising citizens that they
have failed to appear for jury duty or have a tax debt and are
requesting money in order to dispel a warrant for your arrest. They may ask for credit card or social
security numbers, or request for you to purchase a money card. DO NOT provide any personal information to
these scammers. Legitimate law
enforcement personnel will never ask for money over the phone, nor threaten
jail time over the phone.
If you feel you have been a victim of this scam, please
contact Salem Police Department (540) 375-3078.
If you would like to verify your status as a juror, you may contact the
Salem Sheriff’s Office at (540) 375-3040.
