Parks and Recreation

The Department of Parks & Recreation provides the citizens of Salem with year round programs and activities, which are geared for all ages.  Programs are divided into: Senior Citizens Center, James I. Moyer Sports Complex/Kiwanis Field, Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Community Activities and Special Events.  The programs are operated  with a full-time staff of 16 and a number of part-time staff such as field maintenance workers, instructors, game officials, summer special event workers, summer interns, sports clinic leaders, and volunteer coaches.

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of citizens through professionally managed recreation programs, tournaments, and special events that foster economic impact, promote healthy lifestyles, social interaction, and civic pride among participants.

Upcoming Events

HopeTree "Glow for Hope" 5k - Fri, May 08 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

2nd Annual Hopetree "Glow for Hope" 5k
Hopetree of Salem

The Glow For Hope is a timed 5K night run and 2K walk that will light up the streets of Salem to raise awareness and support for HopeTree. The highlight of the evening will be the Glow Party! This family-friendly event will feature music, food, great raffle prizes, face painting, a bouncy house for the kids, and tours of HopeTree's campus. There will be a shorter, campus walk and set up rocking chairs for those who'd like to stay close by but still show their support for HopeTree. This is our annual community fundraiser and all proceeds from the Glow For Hope go directly toward providing vital services to people in need.

Each participant receives a complimentary glow bracelet and necklace! Upon registration, you'll also get a personal fundraising page to help raise money for our cause. Every dollar counts and we challenge each runner and walker to raise enough money so together we exceed our $25,000 goal!
