Parks and Recreation

The Department of Parks & Recreation provides the citizens of Salem with year round programs and activities, which are geared for all ages.  Programs are divided into: Senior Citizens Center, James I. Moyer Sports Complex/Kiwanis Field, Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Community Activities and Special Events.  The programs are operated  with a full-time staff of 16 and a number of part-time staff such as field maintenance workers, instructors, game officials, summer special event workers, summer interns, sports clinic leaders, and volunteer coaches.

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of citizens through professionally managed recreation programs, tournaments, and special events that foster economic impact, promote healthy lifestyles, social interaction, and civic pride among participants.

Park & Rec  Easter Egg Hunt - Saturday, March 19th, 2016 

 

Calling all children from ages 3-10!!  Come to Longwood Park from 1-4 p.m. to hunt for eggs, get your picture made with the Easter Bunny, enjoy activities and a few snacks.  Enjoy some of the new activities that we have in store. We will, also, have Kiwanis giving away free popcorn and the Salem Ice Cream Parlor giving away free ice cream. 

***Children ages 3&4 and 7&8 will hunt at 2p.m.
***Children ages 5&6 and 9&10 will hunt at 2:45p.m.

65th Annual Earnest "Pig" Robertson Fishing Rodeo
Saturday, April 23rd 9-12 p.m.
Children Ages 3-8 Day

Children between the ages of 3-8 are encouraged to come fish some beautiful trout from the Lake Spring Pond.

The Fishing Rodeo is a safe place for kids to be able to fish.  Children are allowed to catch & keep up to 6 trout.  They must bring their own equipment and adults are not allowed to fish for them.

Prizes will be given out throughout the day and trophies will be given for the best fisher.

Location: Salem Farmers Market

Admission: $5, children 12 and under are free. 

Come to listen to live music from 5:30-9 p.m. and dance the night away. Bring a chair and blanket while enjoying food from local vendors at our Food Court.  There are plenty of activities for children as well.
