Parks and Recreation

The Department of Parks & Recreation provides the citizens of Salem with year round programs and activities, which are geared for all ages.  Programs are divided into: Senior Citizens Center, James I. Moyer Sports Complex/Kiwanis Field, Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Community Activities and Special Events.  The programs are operated  with a full-time staff of 16 and a number of part-time staff such as field maintenance workers, instructors, game officials, summer special event workers, summer interns, sports clinic leaders, and volunteer coaches.

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of citizens through professionally managed recreation programs, tournaments, and special events that foster economic impact, promote healthy lifestyles, social interaction, and civic pride among participants.

Salem Parks & Recreation office will be closed on January 1st & 2nd for the New Year's holiday.  We will open back up on Monday, January 5th.

Winterfest Beach Bash - Fri, Jan 30
Winterfest Beach Bash

The City of Salem Parks and Recreation Department along with Salem Terrace, & Q99-FM are all set to present the 8th annual “Winterfest Beach Bash” on Friday, January 30th, 2015, at 6pm at the Salem Civic Center. The popular group “The Band of Oz” will be in town to help melt away the winter cold with a little summertime fun.

Tickets go on sale December 15th at the Salem Parks & Recreation Department (620 Florida Street). Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door – cash and checks only. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and proceeds from the event will benefit the Penguin Club’s community service projects.

This event has sold out for last several so make sure to come get your tickets before we run out.

Calling all children from ages 3-10!!  Come to Longwood Park from 1-4 p.m. to hunt for eggs, get your picture made with the Easter Bunny, enjoy activities and a few snacks.  Enjoy some of the new activities that we have in store.

2015 Chance Crawford Tournament - Fri, Apr 17 - Sun, Apr 19

 2015 Chance Crawford Tournament- April 17th-19th, 2015

The Chance Crawford Benefit Softball Tournament began 32 years ago to help a young Salem High School quarterback, Chance Crawford, who suffered a tragic spinal cord injury in a high school football game. Chance continues to make contributions to the community by allowing the tournament to be played in his name to help others. All proceeds are now used to help many different worthy causes and give several college scholarships.
