Parks and Recreation

The Department of Parks & Recreation provides the citizens of Salem with year round programs and activities, which are geared for all ages.  Programs are divided into: Senior Citizens Center, James I. Moyer Sports Complex/Kiwanis Field, Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Community Activities and Special Events.  The programs are operated  with a full-time staff of 16 and a number of part-time staff such as field maintenance workers, instructors, game officials, summer special event workers, summer interns, sports clinic leaders, and volunteer coaches.

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of citizens through professionally managed recreation programs, tournaments, and special events that foster economic impact, promote healthy lifestyles, social interaction, and civic pride among participants.

Winter Beachfest Tickets On-sale - Wed, Dec 14
Park & Rec Winter Beachfest Ticket On-Sale

Tickets for the "10th Annual Winter Beachfest" go on-sale today (December 14th) at 8 a.m.  The Winter Beachfest is on January 29th with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the music will begin at 6 p.m.

Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door – cash and checks only. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Penguin Club’s community service projects.

This event has sold out for last several years, so make sure to come get your tickets before we run out.

Park & Rec Winter Beachfest

The City of Salem Parks and Recreation Department along with Q99-FM are all set to present the 10th annual “Winter Beachfest” on Friday, February 3rd, 2017, at the Salem Civic Center. The popular group“The Band of Oz” will be in town to help melt away the winter cold with a little summertime fun.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the music will begin at 6 p.m.

Tickets go on sale December 14th at the Salem Parks & Recreation Department (620 Florida Street). Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door – cash and checks only. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Penguin Club’s community service projects.

Easter Egg Hunt - Thu, Apr 13 6:00 PM

 Calling all children from ages 3-10!!  Come to Longwood Park to get your picture made with the Easter Bunny, enjoy activities and a few snacks.  Enjoy some of the new activities that we have in store. We will, also, have Kiwanis giving away free popcorn and the Salem Ice Cream Parlor giving away free ice cream.

 66th Annual Earnest "Pig" Robertson Fishing Rodeo
Saturday, April 22nd 9-12 p.m.
Children Ages 3-8 Day

Children between the ages of 3-8 are encouraged to come fish some beautiful trout from the Lake Spring Park.

The Fishing Rodeo is a safe place for kids to be able to fish.  Children are allowed to catch & keep up to 6 trout.  They must bring their own equipment and adults are not allowed to fish for them.

Prizes will be given out throughout the day and trophies will be given for the best fisher.
