The Salem Police Department welcomed two new officers to the Police Department this month. Officers John Hancock and Robert Eakin were added to the force on Monday, August 4, during a swearing-in ceremony at the Public Safety Building on Calhoun Street.

Hancock has three years of previous law enforcement experience in Harrisonburg.  He is a local product who graduated from Patrick Henry High School and also earned his Bachelor’s degree from Radford University in business administration. After 12 weeks in a field training program, Hancock will be assigned to a patrol platoon.

Eakin also has previous law enforcement experience serving three yearswith the Vinton Police Department. Eakin graduated from Craig County High school and then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from National College.  After Eakin completes 12 weeks of field training, he will be assigned to Salem’s Animal Control.
