Salem Police responded to an armed robbery call at a business located in the 10 block of Chestnut Street on June 24, at approximately 9 p.m. The first officer arrived on the scene approximately one minute after the call was received. The victim of the robbery was unharmed and able to give police a description of the suspect and the vehicle the suspect was believed to be operating.
Officers, who were patrolling the area near the crime scene, quickly located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle a short distance from the place of business. Twenty-year-old Exavior Deopalis McCarthy of Roanoke was identified as the operator of the vehicle, arrested and charged with one count of Armed Robbery and one count of Using a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
Salem Police also recovered a BB pistol, clothing and an undisclosed amount of cash from the car. McCarthy is currently being held at the Roanoke County/Salem Jail without bond.
