In the early morning hours of February 23, Salem Police Officers responded to the 200 block of East Main Street in reference to an armed robbery. Upon investigation, they determined that a female employee of a Main Street restaurant was heading to her vehicle when she was approached and threatened at knife point by a white male suspect.

As one of the female victim’s fellow employees was exiting the establishment, he was alerted to the situation. When he approached his co-worker, the suspect fled the scene on foot. The victim was able to provide a detailed description of her assailant to Salem Police, who immediately searched the area and soon arrested 32-year-old Adam Chitwood of Roanoke.

Chitwood has been charged with armed robbery and he is currently being held in the Salem/Roanoke County jail without bond. The investigation into the incident is still active.
